We receive hundreds of applications every week from people looking to become a psychic or tarot reader with little or no experience at all in reading for others. Some may fill out our application as a psychic or tarot reader, but we would like to know a little more about their abilities before we add them to our list of readers.

What Do We Look for in a Psychic Reader?

Which is why we vet all our readers not only by their experience and methods of reading but also by how they conduct live telephone readings.

As part of our reader selection and assessment process, prospective readers undertake a test reading. This allows us to gain a general overview of how they read in practice.

Do they communicate clearly to clients so they can understand the reader’s interpretation? Does the reader listen to the client so they feel heard? Do they respond clearly to questions being asked by clients? Are they genuinely compassionate and supportive to the client? Are they easy to talk to and sensitive to the emotions of the client without causing any unnecessary fear or judgement?

How Do We Select Our Psychic Readers?

For the last 30-plus years, I have studied different reading styles and paid particular attention to why some readers are more popular than others, with clients queuing up to speak to them.

It is my personal belief that there are many elements that contribute to a reader being considered a good reader.

A good reader has a clear understanding of the tarot cards and can interpret their meanings in relation to the client's questions and situation. One of the main things I have learnt is that knowing the tarot is only part of what makes a good reader.

When a client chooses a psychic or medium, or is looking for a phone tarot reading, they should be able to expect that the reader has been properly vetted and that the standard of the readings they provide still matters, regardless of how long they have been giving readings.

“When I personally assess and vet new readers for Trusted Psychics, I use a 7-point checklist. These are some of the qualities I believe are important in providing the high standard of reading we expect for our clients:”

1. Reading Knowledge

Does the reader demonstrate a good understanding of the reading method they use?

For a Tarot reader, I want to see more than a basic understanding of the card meanings. Can they interpret the cards together and explain those interpretations clearly in relation to the client's situation or questions being asked?

2. Communication

Can the reader communicate with their clients, making them feel supported and comfortable?

A reader may understand the meanings of tarot cards, but if the reader cannot explain the energies they feel or relay their intuition clearly or understand the messages they receive from the spirit world, they are unlikely to provide a meaningful reading.

3. Listening

Do they listen carefully and understand the client's situation, or are they able to answer the questions the client wants to explore?

A good reading should feel relevant to the person receiving it. Listening is key to understanding what the client wants to focus on, rather than jumping into a tarot reading that could apply to anyone.

4. Sensitivity

Is the reader sensitive to the client's situation?

People can seek readings when they are confused, facing doubts or dealing with difficult personal circumstances. We want our readers to use their intuition and show genuine kindness and understanding for the emotions a client may be experiencing.

5. Support

Can they offer support without simply telling the client what they think they want to hear?

Being supportive does not mean guaranteeing a positive outcome just to agree with what the client wants to hear. A gifted reader should be able to discuss their interpretation of the reading honestly, while offering caring, considerate guidance.

6. Respect

Do they speak to clients with respect and without judgement, regardless of the issues being discussed?

Clients should feel at ease and able to talk openly and honestly about what is happening in their lives without feeling embarrassed or judged by the person giving their reading.

7. Professionalism & Ethics

Does the reader understand the full responsibilities of providing psychic readings?

A reader should be professional and responsible in the way they communicate. They should not create fear, make a client believe something bad will happen, or offer further readings at an additional cost.

These seven areas help me look beyond what somebody says about themselves on their application form and look at what kind of reading experience they are likely to provide for our clients.

All readers have different styles of reading, some being more direct and others giving a more detailed response. What matters is that the reader can use their intuition and show their particular psychic abilities while meeting the standards of communication, care, and professionalism that we expect at Trusted Psychics.

How Does Our Reader Selection Process Work?

Everyone who applies will have varying experiences and ways of reading. However, our reader selection process is generally split into 4 steps.

• 1. Apply

When someone applies, they will share information about their experience and how they read. This gives us an idea of what type of reader you may be, but applying does not mean you will be accepted.

• 2. Assessed & Test Reading

By having someone do a test read, we can hear how they actually read, not just from their application.

We will look at how they read and especially how they communicate with the client, including their listening skills, intuition, and their overall approach. Using the quality assessment standards listed on Joanne's 7-point reader checklist.

• 3. Selecting Our Readers

There are many reasons why we don't accept all applicants.

We will look at your assessment as a whole. We want readers who can provide our clients with the standard of reader we're looking for. Not everyone passes our reader selection process.

• 4. Once Accepted

Once accepted, we welcome them onboard as a Trusted Psychics live psychic reader, where we continue to review the standard of readings provided.

Reader performance, customer feedback, and the standards we expect from our readers continue to matter afterwards.

What Would Prevent a Reader From Being Accepted?

If a reader applied and did not meet our quality standards or gave a poor test reading, their application would be rejected.

If a reader was found to instil fear in a client, provide overly negative readings, or make demands for additional costs in order to pressure the client to call them back, their application would be rejected.

We want to ensure that our customers have meaningful reading experiences.

Does Vetting Stop Once the Reader Is Accepted?

Not at all. We want to make sure that we have high-quality readers at all times.

Once a new reader joins our services, we continue to monitor reader performance and customer reviews to help ensure our standards continue to be reflected in the readings that are provided to clients on an ongoing basis.

Good communication skills, ability to listen, and showing compassion and respect for others. Professionalism and acting responsibly are qualities we expect to see from our readers.

Do We Assess Different Types of Readers in the Same Way?

No. Our criteria will always stay the same, but the way we assess and review a reader will naturally reflect the type of reading being provided.

With a Tarot reader, we monitor how individual and surrounding tarot card meanings are interpreted and how their meaning is relayed to the client. A Clairvoyant or Medium may not use cards at all but builds a meaningful connection with their clients.
