The Experience That Shaped Joanne's Approach to Helping Others

In the early 1980s, Joanne regularly accompanied her mother to Guy's Hospital in London for radiotherapy treatment.

She still remembers the radiotherapy department in the basement of Guy’s Hospital. The narrow corridors felt cold and dimly lit, with white and green tiles and old radiotherapy equipment lining the passageways. For Joanne, already worried about her mother, it felt like a particularly bleak place to spend those long daily visits.

It was there that she met somebody who would have a lasting influence on her life: Maria, a specialist oncology nurse.

Joanne remembers Maria as the kind of nurse people might imagine from stories of Florence Nightingale: remarkably organised and dedicated, but with a genuine warmth, kindness and compassion that made frightened patients and their families feel reassured.

During those long visits to Guy's Hospital, Joanne began thinking more deeply about her own direction in life and how she might use her experiences to help other people.

For Joanne, Maria became a lasting example of something she still believes today:

Joanne firmly believes that everyone has their own path and destiny. By the early 1990s, she had reached a point where she wanted to bring together two very different parts of her own life: her knowledge of information technology and her lifelong passion for psychic ability and spirituality.
