A worked reading with the Magician, Seven of Cups and the Ace of Pentacles.
When you use a simple Three-card spread for your career, it will allow you to see what skills you may have and what additional skills you could gain to advance further in your career. A three-card career Tarot spread can help you understand that, by not pushing yourself forward, you could miss out on opportunities that would help you move forward on your career path.
You may enjoy your job but feel as if you should be getting more recognition for your hard work and loyalty, which makes you feel unappreciated. With very little opportunity for promotion, it makes you feel like you’re stuck in a rut and will not be able to achieve your career goals.
Perhaps you have already started looking at job vacancies and may be considering either a complete change of career, even though this is a risky decision, or a similar job where there is a chance of learning new skills and even promotion.
These are some of the reasons people turn to a Career Reading.
With a Career Tarot 3-card spread, you can analyse your skills, think about what options are out there and what you want out of your career.
I will show you an example of how to read 3 tarot cards.
Magician: What you have to offer. Skills and knowledge.
7 of Cups: Your options, hopes, and doubts about your career.
Ace of Pentacles: Something tangible that may benefit you.
These cards ask a great question.
Do you have all you need to succeed in your chosen field, or are you doubting yourself so much that you may be passing up something great?
I will break down each card and give you some tips on how to read this career question.

A work career Tarot reading featuring The Magician, the Seven of Cups, and the Ace of Pentacles.
A three-card career Tarot spread can help you examine your abilities, understand your career path, take advice where needed and think more carefully about new opportunities and your career goals.
Perhaps you have already thought about leaving your job and applying for a new position but are hesitant about whether you have the skills and experience to be considered against other candidates who may be applying for the same position.
Or perhaps you are feeling confused about what you would like to do and hoping to find guidance from the tarot cards.
In this worked example, we'll explore three Tarot cards: The Magician, Seven of Cups and Ace of Pentacles, all in the upright position.
The Magician can represent many things, but usually points to having the ability to be resourceful. It's about knowing what you have to offer and having the confidence to make things happen.
I would say start by thinking about what experience you already have; even the routine jobs you complete every day can be added to your skills list.
Maybe you have been using excellent communication skills when dealing with customers or helping your co-workers solve issues they have been struggling with, but because you do this every day, it must not be left aside, as it is a skill you have learnt.
It could encourage you not to wait for someone to come along and see that you are doing an excellent job, but to move forward knowing your potential.
What it means for your career: Next time you're looking for a job, maybe take some time to look at the skills you already have. Before you decide you need to learn something else.
The Seven of Cups can represent new opportunities, uncertainty, imagination and what may be tempting to you.
Let's say you come across 3 jobs you like.
You may like one because it pays more and lets you work more hours. Maybe another job allows you to have a better work-life balance, but you won't advance as quickly. And maybe the last one interests you because it's something you have never tried before.
These all have their own merits.
The Seven of Cups tells you to ask yourself whether you want what these jobs are actually offering, or if you just like the thought of them.
You may want a job that pays more because you don't spend enough time with your family. But if that job required you to work more hours, you may still not spend as much time with your family.
Or you may like your current job because you get challenged at work, so finding a job that can challenge you more would benefit you more than just getting a slight pay raise.
Equally, if you feel unchallenged at work, a promotion that offers greater responsibility might be more rewarding than one offering a small salary increase.
Your next actions should be: Compare the responsibilities, salary, working hours, and progression opportunities of the positions you're considering.
The Ace of Pentacles can represent new opportunities and usually means they come in a work-related form.
Maybe you have found a vacancy that includes training, good hours, and something that you've been wanting to learn how to do. This opportunity seems to fit what you can offer as well as what you want out of your work life.
It does not necessarily mean you will get the job or make more money just means you may want to take notice of this opportunity and see what steps you would need to take to obtain it.
Career-wise: You may have found an opportunity that could benefit you. Take the time to look into this further.
Next step you should take: Look into the job description and see if you meet the criteria. If you do, stop hesitating and worrying about the challenges you may face; instead, focus on the opportunity that may help you achieve your career goals - apply for the position.

Before starting your tarot card reading, choose 1 simple question concerning your work life.
For Example,
“What should I consider before my next career move?”
It's easier to focus on one specific question than on many.
Lay three cards from left to right, assigning these positions before you draw; each card has a position and a traditional meaning within your career tarot spread.
Your skills: The Magician. What am I bringing to my work, and what am I developing?
Your direction: What do I need to understand about where I want to go?
Your next action: What would help me move forward?
In the example below, the Magician, Seven of Cups and the Ace of Pentacles occupy those positions, all upright.
You can select these three cards deliberately for a reflection exercise or shuffle your full deck and interpret whichever cards appear. Selecting them yourself creates a guided exercise rather than a random draw.
If you are new to reading cards, Tarot Card Meanings: Complete Guide to all 78 Cards Explained explains how a card’s position helps shape its meaning.
Take the first card and think about what it represents in Tarot and how it relates to your question about work.
The Magician represents using your resources and talents. When this appears as your first card, it could be telling you to look at your skill set.
Do the same for the next 2 cards and see how they pertain to you.
After understanding what each card means on its own, try to look at all of them as a whole. Every card means something based on its position but also based on the cards around it and the question you are asking.
You may find that there is a common theme between the cards that wasn't apparent when reading them separately.
Write down any thoughts or questions you may have before stowing your tarot cards away.
Are there questions that were sparked from your reading? Perhaps you should look into what experience you have that can be helpful, or maybe there is something you need to look into further.
Try to think of one thing you can do after your tarot reading.

When The Magician appears in the first position of this career Tarot spread, I would encourage you to think about the experience you already have.
Even routine tasks you complete every day can represent valuable skills. Perhaps you've developed excellent communication skills through dealing with customers.
Maybe you're the person colleagues turn to when they're struggling with a problem, or you've become particularly good at organising work and meeting deadlines.
Because you do these things regularly, you might not think of them as anything special, but they're still abilities you've developed through experience.
The Magician can encourage you to recognise what you offer, rather than waiting for someone else to notice how well you're doing your job.
It doesn't mean you already have every skill needed for a new position. It invites you to look carefully at what you've achieved before deciding what additional experience or training you may need.
Career question: Am I overlooking abilities that could help me progress or apply for a different job?
Practical exercise: Write down three skills you could confidently discuss during a job interview, including an example of when you've used each one.
As mentioned, the Seven of Cups previously represents possibilities, imagination, temptations, and doubt.
There are 7 cups in front of the figure in this card from the Rider–Waite–Smith Tarot. They each have something inside that may seem enticing, and others not so much.
You could look at this image and ask yourself: If I had this opportunity in my hands, would it be beneficial to me?
Maybe you have come across 3 job opportunities that you like.
One pays more than what you're currently making, but you'll be working more hours. One may offer you more time, and you may have less opportunity to move up, and one could be an opportunity that excites you because you've never done it before.
All of these opportunities have their pros, but which one should you take?
This is where the Seven of Cups can help you understand. Do you want to do these jobs, or just want to try something new?
If you're unhappy with your salary and want a higher-paying job, you could say yes to this. But is that really why you want a raise? Or do you want to be working more hours and spend less time with your family?
If you know that you like to be challenged, then taking on more may suit you better than a raise.
It's all about finding out what you want.
Question to ask when looking at your career. Do I want this opportunity because it's beneficial to me or because I'm unhappy with my current situation?
Try writing down the pay, number of responsibilities you'll have and hours. See if you can find 2 or 3 jobs that interest you and compare them.
The Seven of Cups is traditionally associated with possibilities, imagination, temptation, and uncertainty.
In the Rider–Waite–Smith Tarot deck, a figure stands before seven cups containing different objects and symbols. Some appear attractive, while others are less straightforward.
The imagery can encourage you to think about the difference between an opportunity that looks appealing and one that genuinely suits your circumstances.
This card represents new opportunities that will benefit you in some way, practically.
The image from the Rider–Waite–Smith Tarot shows a hand reaching out of a cloud with a pentacle over a garden.
It can represent new jobs or furtherance in your current career. Or maybe something that can grow with hard work.
No, not always. It's a good card to see if you're asking a question regarding a job. But don't expect a new job or raise.
As this is the third position, look at any opportunities that could benefit you practically.
Maybe you came across a job that offers training and will fit your lifestyle and allow you to learn things, or you could have a chance to move up in your current job.
Just make sure the opportunity is something that can be achieved and that you know what steps you need to take.
What opportunities are available for me to better my career?
Look at the job description. See if you meet all criteria and apply.
The cards want you to be aware of what you have to offer. Be realistic about what you want and look into things that may benefit your work life.
You may find yourself looking at jobs for months on end, thinking about all these careers you could have. It's good to narrow down your list at some point and pick one to look into more.
Don't jump at the first opportunity that is presented to you. Take time to look at what you're pursuing and whether it will better your work life.
I feel as though you have what it takes to advance in your career. It could just be that you are scared of giving up something you know and love about your current job.
My advice is to choose the opportunity that best matches your priorities, check the job details, especially your responsibilities, and take the next practical step.
And if none of the job offers provide what you're looking for, there's nothing wrong with continuing your search.
For me, the message of this three-card career Tarot reading is simple: don't make a career change just because you want to get away from something. Think about what you're moving towards and whether it will genuinely make your working life better.
As a reader, I believe people should be able to trust me to provide an honest interpretation of the cards, even when they want a different outcome.
From my experience, when I do Career Tarot readings, I find that people don't always want to know if they will be landing a new job. There may be other questions on their mind, concerning how they feel undervalued in their job; they may want to learn new skills or have managers being difficult. Others may have lost their confidence in their abilities to even start looking for a new job.
Whether they're thinking about changing careers, applying for a promotion, or just trying to find a little happiness in their working life, I want them to feel heard and ready to explore new opportunities they may not have even thought possible.
If you're facing a difficult decision about your working life, you may find it helpful to talk things through with one of our experienced career Tarot readers. Sometimes, exploring your questions with someone who will listen without judgement can help you see your options a little more clearly.
One thing I always teach my Tarot students is that if you don't feel you've made a connection during a reading, don't try to fumble your way through it. I'd much rather someone acknowledge that than force an interpretation.

A tarot card being reversed doesn't always mean that something negative will occur. It could mean that the meaning of that card is hindered in some way. Or maybe it just requires a different approach.
Tarot cards can be used to ask questions about your career when reversed.
This card may indicate that you have doubts about your abilities. Even though you may have done your present job for years, you may not feel that your skill set is good enough when looking for a new role.
You may have been doing your job for years and don't feel that your skill set is good enough when looking for a new role.
It could also mean that you need to better prepare for a new opportunity. Maybe I should question my skill set.
Do I really know what I'm capable of, or do I need to learn new skills?
The Seven of Cups reversed can indicate you are confused about choosing the best career path and that hesitation may make you lose new opportunities.
After searching job vacancies, you still aren't sure what you want to do. Or maybe you have come to the realisation that these jobs aren't as appealing as they seemed.
Maybe I should look at what would benefit me most in my working life.
The Ace of Pentacles can indicate losing an opportunity, or you may need more money before you can pursue your dream job.
A job may pay more than your current one but will require you to spend more on travel. Maybe you want to learn new skills but don't know where the money would come from.
There may be some things stopping you from taking on this opportunity.
Do I have what it takes to succeed in this new job, or will I run into obstacles?
If you got the Magician, Seven of Cups, and Ace of Pentacles reversed, I wouldn't say that you shouldn't change jobs.
There may be some things holding you back. Lack of belief in yourself, being unsure about the decisions you're making or something else.
Just make sure that you aren't jumping ship because you're unhappy with your current situation. Look at what you are good at and see what opportunities may benefit you.
Maybe you want to know if you should apply to that job or want to be promoted. Below are some topics you can use this spread on.
Understand what you are good at. What kind of job you would fit into and what you can do to better your application.
"How can I better myself when looking for a new job?"
Understand the experience and knowledge you have now that you could apply to a new position. Are you willing to learn new skills, and would a new career benefit you?
"What do I need to know about changing my career?"
What are your skills, experience, and knowledge? Do people rely on what you do? Are you ready to take on more responsibility, and how can you let your managers see what an asset you are to their business?
"What do I need to know about getting a promotion?"
“How can I build my confidence within my position?”
There are many Tarot Cards that can show opportunity, such as the Ace of Pentacles, 6 of Wands, 3 of Pentacles and the Sun. But just like any Tarot card, they all depend on the question asked and what cards surround them. There is no one Tarot Card that can tell you that you will be successful in your career.
A Tarot reading can allow you to see what each job has to offer. Maybe one job fits what you want to do better or offers more hours. Each question will vary based on your situation and the job you've been offered. Make sure you take note of your job's requirements before accepting.
Ask questions that open up more information than a yes-or-no answer. Questions such as "What am I missing in my current job?" or "What can I do to better myself to gain more responsibility?" "What do I need to look into before taking this new job? ".
Absolutely! You can use these 3 positions to represent what you excel at. What you need to study more for and what you want to take away from your interview. A Tarot reading will not tell you if you got the job. But it can help you clear your mind of what you want to express.
When pulling three Major Arcana cards, it could mean that you should focus on growing yourself or making a life change. This doesn't always mean that a job change is coming. All of your Tarot Cards mean something on their own as well.
Using a 3-card spread is great when you only have one question to delve deeper into. Using a 5-card spread will give you more room to explore other aspects. It isn't always best to use more cards if you are just starting out learning how to read your Tarot Cards.
As long as you allow yourself to learn from the reading that you did. There is no right number of times to do a Career Tarot Reading. Doing a reading multiple times will not always give you an answer you like. Try doing a different question or wait until your situation changes.
Of course! You can talk to our readers at Trusted Psychics via voice call or via Psychic Messenger service about any job-related questions.
